During the training session of the Geospace project at the beginning of February 2012, the ASRC experts introduced to the participants the 4.0 version of the LEOWorks, as one of the interactive teaching instruments for Geography and Geomatics promoted by the project.
The Romanian satellite Goliat was launched with the ESA’s vehicle Vega today, 13th February 2012 from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.
The law on Romania's Accession Agreement to the European Space Agency (ESA) Convention was officially approved, signed and published on 14th of December.
Eduspace launched the Interactive Meteosat application that started in 2009 as a project conducted by ASRC.
ASRC Becomes Member of C02 Club Romania
ASRC is member of C02 Club Romania starting November 2009. CO2 Club is a professional association whose aim is to carry out specific activities for reduction of CO2 emissions in atmosphere by capture and geological storage.
The Association carries out the following activities: informing and promoting, carrying out specific studies and analyses, workshops, lobby, external cooperation, supporting the contacts and exchange of information among stakeholders from industry, research and education.
By using the Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) and Persistent Scatterers Interferometry (PSI) techniques based on the Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology, ASRC can provide monitoring solutions for: infrastructure development, oil and gas extraction, mining, natural hazards, insurance and environment in general.
Regarding the environment, ASRC can provide monitoring solutions for surface deformation related to ground water pressure, geohazards (landslides), global warming effects and CO2 geological storage.
The advantages of using InSAR to monitor geological CO2 storage zones are:
- wide coverage (tens of kilometers) area around the injection site;
- gas leaks detection on large distances away from the injection site;
- continuous, monthly or even weekly coverage surveillance for very long time periods;
- considerably lower costs than seismic tomography and no logistic (fieldwork) involved.
